Years ago in 2008, our local newspaper held an online county-wide photo contest to create a book called Capture Lane County. It was a fine-art coffee-table style book put together in a non-traditional way – 417 local photographers submitted 8,982 photos, and 602,217 votes were cast online on the photos to select those for the book. One of my photos was selected and I would like to share that with you in this post. This image was taken on slide film using a Pentax ME Super SLR film camera.

I was 18 at the time, and it was a tough time in my life. Getting selected for the book was such a surreal and positive experience for me. My photo won the “Secret Surprise” prize for the Our Neighborhoods section of the book. I still enjoy looking at Capture Lane County from time to time. I am hoping to do a photo project in the future about our local area, partially inspired by that book. (It’s 2025 now, maybe 2026?) It’ll have to be digital photography for financial reasons, but there is something special about film isn’t there?
