A new section on The Captain’s Log

Hey y’all! I am writing to let you know that I have added a photography section to my website. The Captain’s Log covers an assortment of topics, primarily outdoorsy things and the ALONE show. Lately, I have found my interest in photography has been really sparked again in the last couple of years and I’d like to share stuff related to photography here.

I changed the settings on the email subscription options so that you can select which topics you’d like to subscribe to, so you should be able to adjust your subscription if you do not want to get photography updates, but still want to be notified via email about the Alone Show, Outdoors, and Book Reviews. Thank you to those of you who are subscribed to my blog, it means a lot!

Please check out the whole photography section on my website – I pre-loaded a few posts to it so there is more than just this post to look at! If you click on the photos within a post it will display them full screen and have more info about the camera and the settings if you are interested.

The event that re-started my photography journey happened last year (2024) in May when the aurora borealis/northern lights had a chance of being visible in a lot of the U.S. That day, I spent a bunch of time refreshing my memory on my camera settings and learning how to take photos of the aurora, and it cascaded into me really getting back into being intentional about photography again. I’m always taking snapshots of the kids and our daily life, but now I’m learning all I can about photography history, famous photographers, different types of cameras, etc. It’s a lot of fun. I think some of this new energy stems from our family emerging from the baby years and now having big kids. While that does come with it’s own challenges and work, it does give me a bit more brain space to think and ponder on something that isn’t just pure survival. haha!

Disclaimer: I am not a professional or an aspiring professional, I just think this is a fun hobby. Thank you all!
